One of the best features of All in One SEO is it’s ability to auto-generate meta tags based on the content of the post. However, if I’m reading the documentation correctly, the new Social Meta module doesn’t follow suit: you select a “Default Image” in the settings, and that image is used, unless you manually select one on each page/post/product/etc. That seems like a step backward. How about an option to auto-select the 1st image inside the post body, and/or the featured image? That way it’s selected by default, but you can override it in the settings.

My apologies if this is the way it already works and I’m just misunderstanding the documentation.

Hmmmm…. okay, I’ll do that. But that still seems off. If there’s no image in the post/page content, I’d still like to specify a fallback image so it doesn’t select some thumbnail of another post from the sidebar, or the author’s Gravatar or something.

I agree. That’s one thing I like so much about this plugin: it gives you options instead of forcing you to do it a certain way. But that’s all I was suggesting here: an option to select “Featured Image” or “first content image”. So basically if one of those 2 options was checked it would provide several levels of fallback: if I set one in the AiO options for that post, then that will be used. But if one’s not set, then it’ll fallback to either the featured image or first content image (based on my settings). Finally, if neither of those are set, then “Default Image” from this plugin’s settings would be used.

Does that make sense? As an option, it wouldn’t force anyone to use it, but it could be used by those who want to.

Excellent. Thanks. It’s not a huge deal. I just thought I’d share my preferences of how it would work, as I think others would find it beneficial as well.

http://icecast.pro

how about adding open graph features for buddypress members?

specifically, buddypress open graph features for facebook, twitter, google, yahoo/tumblr, pinterest, instagram, and soundcloud?

I 100% agree with this solution ” an option to select “Featured Image” or “first content image”. So basically if one of those 2 options was checked it would provide several levels of fallback: if I set one in the AiO options for that post, then that will be used. But if one’s not set, then it’ll fallback to either the featured image or first content image (based on my settings). Finally, if neither of those are set, then “Default Image” from this plugin’s settings would be used.” as I’m having the same problem.
