Hi Matt,

Thanks for your help getting the free version to work on my server. I want to purchase the pro version, but I want to make sure it will do what my clients want. Essentially, they want to send out an HTML daily digest email to subscribers that contains an excerpt and featured image for each of the posts in the digest (with a link back to each article of course).

I understand customization is limited, but I am good with css. I just want to make sure the Pro version will do this.

Thanks,

Emanuel

Ok I purchased and installed it, and call me crazy, but the admin looks exactly the same. I also sent out an email preview and it, too, looked exactly the same as the free version. How do I set up excerpts and the featured image?

Let me clarify… I realize I am supposed to put html/css into the email template, but I see no way of setting a type of {TABLELINKS} that includes the featured image and an excerpt. As I said above, my clients do not want per-post emails. They only want a daily digest. Thanks.

Hi again Matt,

Please tell me you are NOT saying that I can only include a single image and a single excerpt. I asked you clearly (above) whether I could include an image and an excerpt FOR EACH POST IN THE DIGEST. Your response (above) was an affirmative, to me. Am I missing something here?

Oh, thank goodness!  So then where do I put {IMAGE} and {Post} in relation to the {TABLELINKS}? Or do I get rid {TABLELINKS} altogether?

Hi Matt,

Ok I got rid of {TABLELINKS} and put in simply {IMAGE} {POST} with nothing else.

The digest email shows the title, the image, then the excerpt. So now how can I style these?

The first thing I need to change is to show the thumbnail version of the image rather than the full-size image. Can I do that?

Then, can I align the thumbnail to the left so the excerpt appears to the right of the thumbnail?

And can I make the title an H2 tag?

Emanuel

Thank you! This is what I wanted to know. I have one more question, though.

Where do I add the filter code you provide above for using the thumbnail image? Which file do I put it in? I am not sure what a “custom site plugin” is.

Thanks again.

Wow! That worked great. I just created my first plugin. Thanks! I was also able to tweak the php to make the title H2.

The only difficulty I am having is setting the thumbnail image to align=”left”. I presume I would put it somewhere here:

            if ( strstr($mailtext, “{IMAGE}”) && current_theme_supports(‘post-thumbnails’) ) {
                $post_image = get_the_post_thumbnail($post->ID, apply_filters(‘s2_image_size’, ‘full’));
                if ( $post_image != ” ) {
                    $message_post .= $post_image . “\r\n”;
                    $message_posttime .= $post_image . “\r\n”;
                }
            }
            $message_post .= “”;
            $message_posttime .= “<br />”;

Do you know where/how I would do that?

Thanks!

It did not work.

So how do I include the theme css? That would probably solve all my problems. I use the Atahualpa theme. My css is stored in the database and is included inline with each page view.

Even when I try to put css in my template it doesn’t work. Like this, for example, doesn’t work:

<html>
<head>
<style>
.alignleft
{ float:left;margin-right:8px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>

<div>{IMAGE} {POST}</div>

</body>
</html>

Unfortunately, no. The above code is not adding the ‘alignleft’ class in the code. :(
