Hi,

We have a website that was started with WP 2.x or maybe even before that. It has been upgraded since then and is now running the latest version of WP. We have the All in One SEO pak installed on it. We now need to upgrade the database to use UTF-8 so we can add Chinese characters to posts, etc.

We have been successful in upgrading the database, tables and columns to use UTF-8. But now the All in One SEO Pak is no longer working. All of the fields in the settings are showing an “a”. When you try to replace a text field with the actual text you want and Save, it just goes back to an “a”. We tried uninstalling the plugin and re-installing it, but all we got was a black rectangle with a white question mark in it in each of the text fields and again wasn’t able to replace the fields with actual text.

We were going to upgrade to the Pro version, but we understand that it is the same as the regular version, just without advertising. If we can’t get the plugin to work with UTF-8 there isn’t any point in upgrading it.

We haven’t been able to find any posts about other people having this issue and we can’t see that the plugin wouldn’t work on the new Wordpress versions that use UTF-8.

Could you please tell us how to get the plugin to work or what to do to get support on how to get it to work.

Thank you

Hi,

As I mentioned above, that this blog was setup before wordpress used UTF-8 as the standard MySQL database encoding, which is why I am having to switch over to UTF-8.

Yes, under Settings > Reading >Encoding for pages and feeds has UTF8
PHP 5.3.8
MySql 5.0.95-community and utf8_general_ci as the collation type – Yes
I am not sure where to check if the database is using InnoDB. When I look at the tables they are showing the Type as MyISAM.

Setting up a test site using a new version of wordpress will work fine as it starts out with a UTF-8 database. Whereas we had a latin1 database with latin1_swedish_ci collation.

I need to get the plugin to work with the modified database.

Thanks

Hi,

I am using a test site.
I have followed the instructions in the link you provided already. The database, tables and columns have been altered to be utf8
I have changed the wp-config.php file to have the 2 defines you provided above already.

The plugin is not working. When I try to change a text field to some content and save, it just displays this character:

Is the text field information stored in the options db table? When you look at the list of tables in phpMyAdmin they are showing as having Collation utf8_general_ci with a Type of MyISAM. When I look at the structure of the tables the columns are showing has having collation utf8_general_ci as well.

Thank you
