I hate to be another “Emails aren’t sending!” post, but…. emails aren’t sending.

I installed the Log Emails plugin, and I can see every Subscribe2 email is being logged correctly (for all emails sent through the manual “Send Email” section AND by publishing a post). But they do not arrive in my inbox (or spam folder). I only have 1 subscriber (me) so email throttling shouldn’t be the issue. But to be safe, I installed an email queue plugin (no change) and WP Mail SMTP (no change). I can receive the test emails sent from WP Mail SMTP (and all other wordpress-related emails both with and without SMTP). So the issue is specifically related to Subscribe2.

Can you think of any other reason why the emails aren’t arriving? I’m on Rackspace Cloud hosting. My emails per recipient is 1, but I have also tried 0 with no success.

Thank you!

I should add that I CAN receive the email sent from the “Send Email Preview” button on the template page. That makes no sense – why is that one different from other Subscribe2 emails (from Send Email or publishing a post).

Other Subscribe2 emails come from the email I set to send from (same domain name). But the Send Preview Email comes from my address (non-domain). So I changed the Subscribe2 settings to send from my email (non-domain) as well — still didn’t come through. So the domain name doesn’t appear to be the issue either. So confused!

Just checking in with another update. I called Rackspace and they see no issues on their end. But they think the Email Log is giving a false positive that the Subscribe2 emails are actually sending. Because using SMTP, I should be able to see those emails in my “Sent Mail” folder in my email, and they are not there. Any other wordpress-related emails ARE present in my sent mail folder. So this does appear to be specific to Subscribe2.

I appreciate any advice you could give on what I can try next. I’ve of course tried deactivating all plugins and no change.

Oh sorry, I missed your previous response before I posted that. Yes, I’d be happy to have you take a look. How can I send you information privately?

I have updated to 4.6.1 and no luck.

@Matthew, if there is a way to contact you privately, I’ll send you credentials to check out the site. I’ve exhausted everything I know to do to get it working. Perhaps it will be easier for you to see more quickly what is going wrong. Thanks!

I don’t see you anywhere in my inbox or spam for my gmail.com address. Would you mind trying again? The first character is the letter “L” — any chance you used a number 1? Sorry for the confusion!

Matthew, I got your email and replied to it. Just to be safe, I’m following up here. Let me know if you didn’t receive my reply with the credentials. Thanks!

@Matthew

Thank you for looking into it. Before I contact Rackspace, could I ask you one more question? We are using Subscribe2 to replace the below function that we’ve been using to send notifications for seminar posts. This function does send the mail correctly with HTML. Do you see any differences in the way this email is sent as compared to the way Subscribe2 sends emails? I guess I’m assuming this email must go through the sendmail application you referenced as well, so I’m trying to have a better understanding of why this HTML email comes through and Subscribe2 does not. Thank you for any insight! (I’ve changed references to our domain to “mywebsite.com” for privacy.)

function notify_subscribers ($post_id){
global $wpdb;

if ( ‘seminar’ !== get_post_type($post_id) )
return; // restrict the filter to a specific post type

// get all of the seminar subs
$subs = $wpdb->get_results(‘SELECT * FROM wp_cf7dbplugin_submits WHERE form_name = “Seminar Subscriptions” AND field_name=”email-542″‘, ARRAY_A);

foreach($subs AS $item){
$email = $item[‘field_value’];

$message = ‘<img src=”http://www.mywebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/logo.png” width=”223″ height=”57″ />’;
$message .= ‘<h2 style=”font-family:Arial, Helvetica, san-serif;”><span style=”color: #b4000f;”>Hello!</span>, We\’ve posted an upcoming seminar/webinar that you may be interested in:</h2>’;

$message .= ‘<h3 style=”font-family:Arial, Helvetica, san-serif;”>’.get_the_title($post_id).'</h3>’;

$message .= ‘<p style=”font-family:Arial, Helvetica, san-serif;”>To learn more or register, go to <a href=”http://www.mywebsite.com/seminars/””>http://www.mywebsite.com/seminars/</a&gt;.</p>’;
$message .= ‘<hr />’;
$message .= ‘<p style=”font-size: 10pt; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, san-serif;”>You\’re receiving this email because you subscribed for updates at http://www.mywebsite.com.</p&gt;’;

$headers = “From: Scott <no-reply@mywebsite.com>
“;
$headers .= “Reply-To: no-reply@mywebsite.com
“;
$headers .= “MIME-Version: 1.0
“;
$headers .= “Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1
“;

$subject = ‘We have posted a new Seminar/Webinar’;

wp_mail($email, $subject, $message, $headers );
sleep(1);
}
}
}

add_action( ‘acf/save_post’, ‘notify_subscribers’, 10, 3 );

Sorry I wasn’t sure how to properly paste code into this forum, so the formatting is a little weird, but hopefully you can see it well enough to understand. I suppose the relevant bit is this part:

 wp_mail($email, $subject, $message, $headers );

Any reason why that would send HTML email, but not Subscribe2?

Thanks!

@Matthew , does this suggest anything new to you that I can try? I’m afraid the web host is just going to say “if your other mail script works, then it must be a problem with the plugin” so I’m trying to figure out what I can say to explain it to them.

@Matthew

Just made a little breakthrough! When I deselect “Embed theme CSS stylesheet and Images in HTML notification” in the Subscribe2 settings, the HTML template preview emails come through. So embedding seems to be the problem. (But if I don’t select that, then it will make me click to show images in the email manually, which we don’t want.)

Does that shed any light?

Just published a seminar and the HTML email worked! And the image was properly embedded even without the “embed images” option checked. You might have also just received a notification if you are still subscribed. I guess that was the problem?
